Tammy and I strapped on some MSR Lightning snowshoes and headed up to Mueller Park this week. Yes, the trail was icy. Why, you might ask, does a person need snowshoes on a packed trail? Well there are two answers today: 1- the crampons gave us much appreciated traction on the ice spots. 2 - Who stays on trail? We headed off trail up steeper stretches that had foot-deep snow. We climbed, traversed, slid down the hills for fun. Only 2 people on the trail today. One trail runner with Yak Traks and a guy walking his dog. Note to dog walkers: please pick up your dog poo. That's what your left-over Walmart bags are for. Recycle and use them a second time to clean up after fido.
